How to play Footy Rankle Classic

Classic is the broadest Footy Rankle mode: six world footballers from different leagues, eras and international backgrounds, all compared through career-level football statistics. One round might mix Champions League regulars with international icons, while another might lean into goal scorers, creators or long-serving national-team players. The challenge is not to guess the names. The names are given to you one by one. Your job is to decide where each footballer is most likely to rank best among the day’s six options.

Every placement costs that player’s real-world ranking in the selected stat. A rank of 1 is excellent, 12 is risky, and anything outside the top 100 is shown as 100+ but counts as 100 toward your total. Once you place a footballer, that choice locks instantly and cannot be moved, so the puzzle rewards careful comparison rather than trial and error. After all six names are placed, your ranks are added together and the lowest total wins. The result screen also reveals the perfect arrangement, so you can see where points were won or lost.

A new Classic puzzle appears every day at midnight London time. You can play Classic once per day, then come back tomorrow for a fresh group and a new combination of stats.

How to play

  1. 1Look at the footballer currently shown at the top of the board.
  2. 2Choose the category where you think that player has the strongest real-world rank.
  3. 3Use the immediate score as feedback, but remember that locked picks cannot be changed.
  4. 4Finish all six placements and compare your total with the best possible score.

Is Classic about current form?

No. Classic usually draws from wider career and international records, so retired players and active players can appear together.

Why does a rank sometimes show as 100+?

The player is outside the top 100 for that stat. To keep the puzzle fair, that placement counts as 100 rather than a bigger number.

Can I move a footballer after placing him?

No. Each choice locks immediately, which is what makes the order and timing of your decisions matter.

When does the next Classic puzzle arrive?

Classic resets at midnight London time, with one completed attempt allowed each day.
